Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Arlington Park, Belmont Park and Churchill Downs Picks for June 24, 2021

#RickysRockets🚀 certainly enjoyed the return to Arcadia, California this past weekend, to cap off the end of the spring meet at Santa Anita. As we shift towards a new week of racing, we incorporate Arlington Park for the first time! They have some exotic bets including a Pick 7 and a Pick 8, with extremely low takeouts! Let’s see what we can make sense of all of this craziness and cash some tickets as well.

Also included below: my 8-race preview of Arlington Park, 9-race preview of Belmont Park, 8-race preview of Churchill Downs!

Belmont Park June 24, 2021

Race 6: $40,000 Maiden Claiming for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 7 furlongs on the widener turf

#6 Not a Trace got a chance to face state-bred competition for the first time on May 31, and she proved that’s where she belongs. She was scheduled to run on the grass, in that one, but the weather had different plans. #10 Write This Down faces Maiden Claiming competition for the first time, after two races against tougher competition. Joel Rosario picks up the mount and takes over for Trevor McCarthy.

Race 7: $25,000 Claiming for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

I’m not sure we are going to be able to get past the two short prices in here, #3 Flat Awesome Jenny and #4 Daria’s Angel. Both mares proved they can run at this level and look good doing so. They are a step above the rest of the horses in here.

Race 8: $100,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the inner turf

There is plenty of talent in this field, and I think this is one of the more wide open events. #5 Robin Sparkles hasn’t won on the turf since November, where she took down a tough Allowance field. #7 Catch a Bid hasn’t been great this year, but she’s faced stiff competition. Her last effort was in The Very One Stakes at Pimlico last month.

Race 9: $40,000 Maiden Claiming for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 7 furlongs on the widener turf

#8 Barre makes her first start of her career for arguably the best trainer on this surface. Clement is winning at 20% with first time starters in the last 365 days. #10 The Promised Road has too much pedigree to be in this spot, even though she hasn’t shown a lot on the track. This is the right morning-line price, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see George Weaver get her to improve in a big way.
