Aqueduct January 10, 2021

Race 6: $8,000 Claiming for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

It’s been a very long time since we’ve seen three horses entered together, but due to ownership stakes and the marriage of Katie Davis and Trevor McCarthy, this is where we ended up. At even money, the #1 Cindervella, #1A Rose Ring and #1X Miss Loyalty will be tough to beat. #4 Citizen Matzo looks like the only horse who can beat the previous three I mentioned. I don’t have any strong opinion on her, but I’m willing to throw out her last race over a sloppy track.

Race 7: Maiden Special Weight for New York-bred 3-year-old fillies going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

#4 Destinationwnrscir didn’t show a ton of early speed in her debut, so I’m expecting her to run a little better given the fact she will get an extra 1 1/2 furlongs to work with. She will not be 41/1 in this race based on her last effort. #7 Photofinish Jeanne did better going longer last time out, but she will get back to the dirt for the first time since November 7. Her best race may be coming up.

Race 8: Rego Park Stakes for New York-bred 3-year-olds going 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

#3 Uno was dominant in his debut, but it was kind of expected given his pedigree and the connections. He was purchased for $255,000 earlier in 2020 and ran to his odds. I’m not sure if he really took to the muddy track, or if he was simply better than the rest of the field. #4 Blue Gator was undefeated going into the Notebook Stakes on November 14, but this looks to be a nice bounce back spot for him. He has the best races on paper in regards to runners at the stakes level.

Race 9: $20,000 Maiden Claiming for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#1 Bastet is a standout on paper, but really should’ve won a long time ago. This is the lowest level she can go, so this will be her last chance to win a race. #5 Wishes and Dreams has also had her chances, but she has been much more consistent. It’s no surprise to see Jose Lezcano and Kendrick Carmouche on these two runners, as they look to be the best on paper.
