Ricky’s Rockets ?: Aqueduct, Gulfstream Park and Los Alamitos Picks for December 11, 2020

Ricky’s Rockets? soared through the atmosphere cashing tickets from Aqueduct and Gulfstream Park on Thursday afternoon. As we add Los Alamitos to the mix, it’s going to be another great Friday afternoon as we kick off the weekend.

Also included below: my 10-race preview of Gulfstream Park and 8-race preview of Los Alamitos.

Best of luck!

Race 6: $80,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 7 furlongs on the dirt

The Rob Atras duo will certainly be tough to beat as both of them come into this spot off of winning efforts. I prefer #1 Lil Commissioner over #1A American Power, who won at the $62,500 AOC level last time out, but having two runners is always nice to have. #2 Home Base comes into this race from Churchill Downs looking to find a new home. The competition in Kentucky is fierce, but he looks strong on paper.

Race 7: $25,000 Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the inner turf

#2 Good Old Boy won impressively at the Allowance levels last time out, so this move is a little curious. If we dive into the PP’s he’s only raced three times this year most likely indicating there’s been a problem keeping him fit consistently. #10 Hayabusa One has been traveling at much longer distances as of late so this is actually a cut back in distance for him, which is one of my favorite angles.

Race 8: Allowance for 3-year-olds and upward going 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

#2 Foolish Ghost has put forth consistent efforts in almost every race this year. He’s finished in the money in 6/7 races, including a second place finish at this level last time out. #13 Bustin Shout takes his talents back to the main track after running his last race on the turf. His most recent dirt effort was a winning one, going gate-to-wire over a sloppy track at Belmont on October 16.

Race 9: $40,000 Maiden Claiming for New York-bred 2-year-old fillies going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#2 Violentiam deserves to be the favorite based on her speed figures, but she’s clearly unreliable considering she’s been the favorite in three straight starts. Consider her, but not without using some other horses as well. #12 Regal Honor is a first time starter who was purchased for $22,000 at the Fasig Tipton Timonium Sale in the spring. Most of these horses were homebreds, so I’m willing to take a chance on her.
