With Kevin Manning aboard, Poetic Flare’s win was a return to his early spring form that saw him take back-to-back events including the 2000 Guineas (G1) at Newmarket before he suffered a pair of defeats, including by a short head in the 2000 Irish Guineas (G1) last out. The Dawn Approach colt’s record improved to 8-5-1-0 for Jim Bolger, who along with training also owns and bred Poetic Flare.
Lucky Vega, who shared stateside favoritism with the winner, took second by a neck over Battleground, with Maximal a 1/2-length behind them in fourth.
Chindit, Highland Avenue, Thunder Moon, Naamoos, Wembley, La Barrosa, Bullace, Mostahdaf, and Ontario completed the order of finish.
Poetic Flare returned $9.40 to win and $3.60 to place. Lucky Vega brought back $3.40 to place. Battleground paid $6 to place.
