It’s hard to believe that this is the next-to-the-last Saturday of the Spring meet at Churchill Downs but it is upon us . There are 11 races on the card and it is as difficult as usual. We will see if we can hit on a few winners. Also, there is a NHL playoff game on tap plus an important Game 7 to analyze in the NBA. So let’s get going.

My Picks: 2,4,10 I’m going with a price here selecting #2 Brooklynn’s Dabomb. This 3yr. old filly is coming off a solid 3rd in her only start and looks to be worth a shot in this one. She showed great speed and if they can slow her down some she should get ahead and be hard to catch. The morning line has her at 8-1 so it is worth a try.

Race 7: Allowance **Papa Dude Best Bet**

My Picks: 7,5,4 This is a competitive allowance race and I selected #7 Cazadero trained by Steve Asmussen. This colt has been competing in Stakes races has been consistent in every race. He finished a close second in a similar race last time out at Churchill.

Race 9: Allowance **Papa Dude Best Bet**

My Picks: 7,5,4 I’m going with #7 Enjoyitwhilewecan which is also very good advice in life. This 5-year old mare is trained by Mike Maker who is having an outstanding meet. She has been superb in her four 2021 starts with a first, two seconds, and a third. She could easily have won all 4 of them.

Race 10: Roxelena Overnight Stakes **Papa Dude Best Bet**

My Picks: 5,4,3 This is another competitive race featuring some talented fillies and mares. My selection is #5 Sconsin who has 2 great starts at this meet. She won the Grade-3 Winning Colors Stakes by 3 plus lengths and finished 2nd in the Grade-1 Derby City Distaff to Gamine by a narrow margin.

Papa Dudes Sports Plays of the Day

Let’s start off with the NHL.

Tampa Bay at New York Islanders

This is Game 4 of what is becoming a great series featuring two teams that are developing a great distaste for each other. The two teams split the first two games in Florida before the Lightning took Game 3 on Long Island. This is a must game for New York as they sure don’t want to fall behind three games to one. Both teams are getting solid goal-tending and are playing at the top of their game. In short, there isn’t much to pick from between these two. I’m taking Tampa Bay because, well, I like them.

My Pick: Tampa Bay (Confidence Level 2 out of 5)

And now the biggie in the NBA.

Milwaukee at Brooklyn

This is the 7th and deciding game of this outstanding series in which a very good team is going to get eliminated. This is a game in which some books have Milwaukee favored by 1 and some have Brooklyn favored by 1. And then some others have it as a pick-em. There obviously isn’t much difference between them. Both feature great players and both can win in different ways. Milwaukee has been the better team in the last 4 games and were it not for a out of this world performance by Kevin Durant in Game 5, would have this series locked up. Does Mr. Durant have another superstar performance in him?

My Pick: Brooklyn (But don’t bet your kid’s college education fund on it)
