Best Bets of the Day

Race 5: Claiming

I like the #6 Lulumaru trained by Robertino Diodoro in this claimer. She has hit the board in all 5 of her last races. She has good opening speed and should be able to maintain the pace to close for the win.

The Bet: $40 to Win on #6

Race 8: Allowance

My pick is #9 Happymac trained by Steve Asmussen. He is coming off a dominating victory at Oaklawn Park winning by 10 lengths and dominating the field to break his maiden. He showed dominating speed and could be a superstar through the rest of the summer.

The Bet: $40 to win on #9

Race 9: Maiden Claiming

Chad Brown sends #7 High Deff out on the turf in this $75,000 maiden claimer. He has been on the shelf since January and has 2 thirds out of three starts. One has to thing that the handlers have been working with him and he will make significant improvements in this one.

The Bet: $20 to Win on #7

Papa Dudes Sports Plays of the Day

It is time for the Stanley Cup playoffs and let’s look at the 4 games on tap for today.

Washington at Boston

It is Game of 4 of this series which finds Boston up 2 games to 1. All 3 games have gone into overtime and this series is unbelievably close. The Bruins have come from behind to win the last two games and this is a must win for the Capitals. My prediction was Washington in six so they are in dire need of a win.

The Pick: Washington

Carolina at Nashville

The Hurricanes are in complete control in this one leading the series 2-0. Nashville is tough at home and they have to get their power play going if they are going to have a chance to get back into the series.

The Pick: Nashville

Winnipeg at Edmonton

The Jets won Game 1 to take a 1-0 lead in this matchup. I will admit I never get Winnipeg right in my predictions but I’m pretty confident Edmonton will bounce back and even up the series in this one.

The Pick: Edmonton

Colorado at St.Louis

This series has been for the most part all Colorado to this point. The Avs won the first 2 in Denver and other than a last period rally in Game 2, the Blues have been dominated. Yeah, I know they have had a few players out because of Covid but it wouldn’t have made any difference. Wisdom says that the Blues have no chance but for some reason I’m thinking they have one win in them and this game is the one where they get it.

The Pick: St. Louis

Memphis at Golden State

Finally, I guess I’ll throw my two cents in on the absurdity of the NBA play-in games. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me but nobody asked me. Tonight’s game has Memphis at Golden State. The Grizzlies won their first game on Wednesday against the Spurs and the Warriors lost their game against the Lakers. So, the reward for Memphis is a trip to California to take on Steph Curry on his home floor. Makes perfect sense doesn’t it? Memphis is a tough, hard-nosed team and they are a tough out but I think Golden State figures out a way to win this one.

The Pick: Golden State -3.5
