Overbore Breaks Maiden in Tremont

ELMONT, NY – Peter Leidel’s Overbore took advantage of the scratch of Little Drama, his well-regarded stablemate in the Wesley Ward barn, and broke through for his maiden score in Friday’s $150,000 Tremont Stakes at Belmont Park.

Overbore became the 3/5 top choice at post time after Little Drama – the 1/2 morning line favorite – scratched, as did Rising Outlaw.

Joel Rosario piloted Overbore from post 3 to a 3/4-length victory over Kavod, who was well clear of Trust Our Journey and Baytown Frosty.

The final time for the muddy 5 1/2-furlong sprint was 1:05.44.

“He is very talented,” Rosario said. “He didn’t break that well, but he came with a nice run at the end, so that was a very good performance.”

A son of Speightstown purchased for $275,000 as a yearling, Overbore’s earnings are now $108,500. He was third on debut at Keeneland in April, then second at Churchil Downs in May, prior to the Tremont.

“He’s not quick coming out of there, but Joel really knows him,” said Flores. “He said he might be just right off the pace. He got after them at the right time and it was a great run at the end.”

Overbore returned $3.30 to win and $2.20 to place. Kavod brought back $3.60 to place. There was no show betting.
