OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Susan Moulton’s Oliviaofthedesert squeaked by up the rail to narrowly take Friday’s $60,000 Trapeze Stakes at Remington Park.
The even-money favorite under David Cabrera, Oliviaofthedesert rallied from mid-pack in the stretch and managed to get her head down on the wire first, completing the fast dirt mile route in 1:39.39.
The early pacesetter Tiz Splendid News, sandwiched between the three-wide wall at the finish, finished in a dead heat for second with Simply Sovereign.
Cecile’s Chapter, Sorority Row, Fast N Fine Worker, Credit Enhancement, Silver Devil, Paydiem, and Run Slewpy Run completed the order of finish.
Miss Twenty was scratched from the race restricted to juvenile fillies.
Oliviaofthedesert’s win was her second straight following a score against Churchill Downs optional claiming rivals and improved her overall record to 7-3-0-2. The Kenny McPeek-trained Bernardini filly, purchased for $320,000 last year, has now earned $181,822.
Oliviaofthedesert returned $4.20 to win, $2.40 to place, and $2.20 to show. Tiz Splendid News brought back $2.60 to place and $3.20 to show, while Simply Sovereign paid $2.10 to place and $2.80 to show.
