3 Stars of the Week:
-1st Star – Amie’s Dini (KY) – The Martha Washington was supposed to be all about Now I Know, but it ended up being all about Amie’s Dini. The Ron Moquett trained filly stalked Now I Know and flew by her with ease turning for home, winning by two lengths at the end. It’s pretty obvious that Amie’s Dini likes to go two turns, so I look for her to be a major factor in the Honey Bee and Fantasy Stakes later this year. She’s now rated as the second best filly at Oaklawn behind On Fire Baby, and she’ll get her shot to take her down next.
-2nd Star – Now I Know (OK) – Even though Now I Know was defeated for the first time in her career, she still ran a pretty good race. She was collared at the top of the stretch by Aime’s Dini, but still dug in hard to hold on to second while trying to make a run at the leader. Questions will now come up as to whether six furlongs might be her best distance, but I would think they’ll try her around two turns again in the Honey Bee.
-3rd Star – Our Domain (IL) – The eighth race on Sunday was supposed to be all about Silver Hustler, but it was Our Domain that looked extremely sharp in a relatively easy victory. The win most likely will propel Our Domain into stakes company next time out. Much like Aime’s Dini, I think Our Domain will get better as the distances get longer so she might be a dark horse in this loaded three year filly division at Oaklawn.
-Biggest Flop of the Week:
– Silver Hustler (KY) – Make no mistake; this was probably the most disappointing performance of the meet so far at Oaklawn. After breaking her maiden in incredible fashion, Silver Hustler was a fading third in her first race around two turns Sunday. She seemed to lack the closing kick she had displayed in her first race when going six furlongs. It will be interesting to see where Silver Hustler lands next. The race Sunday was supposed to be a prep for the Honey Bee, but now plans might change.
