NYRA Preview: Belmont Park 9/29

NYRA Preview: Belmont Park 9/29

I never thought yesterday’s racing could exceed expectations but it certainly did. We saw Imperial Hint outlast Firenze Fire in the stretch, witnessed Midnight Bisou do what she does best, and saw a classic between Code of Honor and Vino Rosso end in major controversy. Four maiden special weight (MSW) winners got a chance to show what their careers could look like. I previewed both maiden special weight (MSW) races including one of my best plays of the meet!

Race 2: $62,000 MSW for New-York-bred 3-year-olds going 6 furlongs on the dirt

A lot of the main contenders in this race have some experience to rely upon in this spot. My top choice is #5 Hot Brown for the Charlie Baker barn. Charlie Baker comes into this race in the money 40% so far at the meet. By Big Brown, he has some of the best dirt pedigree that a maiden can have. He’s also run back-to-back workouts of 5 furlongs sub 1:01.6. Kendrick Carmouche is one of the most aggressive riders on the NYRA circuit and I like this colt’s chances to win first time out.

Race 6: $62,000 MSW for New-York-bred 3-year-old fillies and mares going 6 furlongs on the inner turf

#11 Corey Scores comes into this race for a Chad Brown barn that continues to be white hot. We don’t see many horses with a price tag of $315,000 for the Chad Brown barn not work out. However, this filly will see the softest field that she has seen in her career. Every race she’s entered in, she continues to get better and better. Irad Ortiz was aggressive with her last time out and had her close to the front but never made a bid in the stretch. She certainly deserves to be the favorite and is my best play of the day.

Ricky’s Picks: 11-2-8-5
