NYRA Preview: Belmont 10/6

Yesterday really encompassed what thoroughbred racing is all about. There was drama and excitement all across the country from Belmont to Keeneland to Santa Anita. It doesn’t stop there however, as Belmont Park is back at it with the Frizette, the Flower Bowl, and the Futurity (BC). As always, I’ve previewed the two maiden special weight (MSW) races as well as another fantastic race day is upon us

Race 1: $62,000 MSW for New-York-bred fillies and mares 3-years-old and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8.5 furlongs) on the inner turf

#7 Marquet Legacy ran her best race last time out on September 11 over a firm turf course here at Belmont Park. Today’s race includes four other runners outside of Maqruet Legacy that lost out to eventual winner, Sterling Beauty. Marquet Legacy has done better and better with added distance. She has zero early speed but there’s speed to her inside and outside which should set up nicely for her. Manny Franco has been on her for her first three races and hope her fourth start is the one that breaks her maiden status.

Race 6: $75,000 MSW for 2-year-old fillies going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#2 Power Move comes into this race with the perfect dirt pedigree. Power Move has More Than Ready who was a great dirt horse as a sire and his dam Trophy Wife, is by multimillion-dollar winner in Giant’s Causeway. He also has looked amazing in the mornings as he went sub one-minute going 5 furlongs two works back on September 21. Shug McGaughey has a filly that might use this stage as a steppingstone to a promising career down the road.
