NYRA Preview: Aqueduct 2/8

After racing on Friday at the Big A was cancelled due to high winds, there are nine races on today’s card highlighted by the Jimmy Winkfield Stakes. There are two maiden special weight (MSW) races today that I’ve previewed as another great racing day is upon us.

Race 2: $68,000 MSW for 3-year-old fillies going 7 furlongs on the dirt

Bill Mott certainly has a talented filly with #5 Common Courtesy. She debuted at this 7-furlong distance which is always difficult to navigate first time out. She chased Rude Awaking around the track and put in a very solid performance. Rude Awaking put in a monstrous performance on January 12 and ran circles around that group of six. Common Courtesy has some speed to sit behind as Junior Alvarado will try the same race tactics he deployed in Common Courtesy’s debut.

Race 5: $68,000 MSW for 3-year-olds going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

The big favorite in this spot is Continuation out of the Dane Kobiskie barn who comes into this race at even money. I’m going to take a shot with a price with #2 Sixteen Tons as he comes into this spot after sparkling in his debut for Linda Rice. He put in a great effort at the end of 2019 finishing second by a length going 6 1/2 furlongs on a muddy track. Sixteen Tons ran out of time in his debut and the added distance should give him plenty of time to get home and give some added value to a suspect field.
