NYRA Preview: Aqueduct 1/19

NYRA Preview: Aqueduct 1/19

After a day of great racing across the country yesterday, Aqueduct brings us the 148th Running of the Ladies Handicap for older fillies and mares going 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on the dirt. There are also two maiden special weight races that I’ve previewed with very similar storylines as we look to make some money and end the weekend on a high note.

Race 1: $60,000 MSW for fillies and mares 4-years-old and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#3 Doll has had the lead down the stretch in four of her six career efforts and comes into this race looking to break her maiden status. She has all the talent in the world but needs to get the job done. I expect Manny Franco to put her on top and slow down the pace as much as possible in the backstretch. Jason Servis will be out of ideas if she can’t hold on in the stretch and win in this spot today.

Race 4: 68,000 MSW for fillies and mares 4-years-old and upward going 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

#4 Tan and Tight has the perfect running style for this sprint. There is a ton of early speed to her inside which sets up the way Chad Brown would want. Tan and Tight has shown early speed early in her career back at Monmouth and Saratoga but she prefers to run a stalking trip. There are plenty of horses who will try to establish themselves on top out of the gate. This race sets up the way Chad Brown would’ve hoped for and gives his filly a chance get by this field in the stretch.

Ricky’s Picks: 4-3-2-1
