community initiatives.

Gulfstream’s latest initiatives include:

  • Funding the Gulfstream Park American Dream Scholarship at Broward College in perpetuity to help students in Broward, Miami-Dade or Palm Beach County who are 75 percent toward degree completion and have financial need.
  • Canter for the Cause, which allows riders of all ages to trot or canter their horse across legendary Gulfstream to benefit Thoroughbred Aftercare Reading programs at several local schools in the area.
  • Impact Fund for Veterans and Legends
  • Ed Brown Society

Behind the scenes of Florida Thoroughbred racing is a vibrant, often unseen world known as the “backstretch.” It’s created by hundreds of independent businesses—both large and small. Through the labor-intensive, long-term and highdollar financial investment required to get a young Thoroughbred ready for competition, horse owners and trainers create thousands of jobs that drive over $1 billion a year through Florida’s economy—from breeding and buying, to training and campaigning.

The Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association represents the interests of over 6,000 Thoroughbred horse owners and trainers who do business in Florida. Some FHBPA members are based in Florida, others have vast operations throughout the globe. But during a race meet, Florida is home to all of us. The FHBPA works to foster and promote their relationships with tracks, community and government, while creating a better economic climate in which our horsemen can do business.

The FHBPA’s mission and purpose is also to foster and encourage a healthier economic climate and a high level of public acceptance of the Florida Thoroughbred industry, to protect the safety of its members, their stable personnel and horses, and to work with all officials and representatives of Gulfstream Park, the Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering and its departments and sub-divisions, and the public.

The FHBPA is located at Gulfstream Park.
