Dream Pauline Dominates G3 Hurricane Bertie

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Stonestreet Stable’s homebred Dream Pauline made it two straight in the Gulfstream Park slop on Saturday when she took command off of the far turn and drew clear impressively to win the Grade 3, $150,000 Fasig-Tipton Hurricane Bertie Stakes.

Breaking cleanly from post 2 under Javier Castellano at 5/2 odds, Dream Pauline kept within striking range of the 2/1 favorite Blamed through opening fractions of :22.58 and :45.18. Rounding the far turn, Castellano spotted an opening between Blamed and the rail and drove his filly through it. Catching the rest of the field off-guard, the Kiaran McLaughlin trainee shot past quickly and drew off in deep stretch to win by 3 1/2 growing lengths in a final time of 1:21.45 for the 7-furlong sprint over the sloppy (sealed) main track.

Though unable to keep tabs on the winner, 44/1 longshot Pacific Gale shot up the middle of the track late to take second by 1 1/4 lengths over Stormy Embrace, while the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint winner Shamrock Rose could only muster fourth. Blamed weakened in the stretch run and finished fifth, with Ms Meshak, Awestruck, and Victory Rally completing the order of finish.

Dream Pauline’s win came on the heels of her tight neck victory last out in the Grade 3 Sugar Swirl Stakes over three foes from today’s race: Awestruck, Stormy Embrace, and Pacific Gale. The 4-year-old daughter of Tapit now carries a record of 5-4-0-1 with $244,173 in earnings.

Dream Pauline returned $7.80 to win, $5 to place, and $3.20 to show. Pacific Gale brought back $26.80 to place and $8.20 to show, while Stormy Embrace paid $3 to show.
