Consistent Estilo Talentoso Makes the Grade in Bed o’ Roses

ELMONT, NY – Trainer Juan Arriagada’s consistent Estilo Talentoso made the grade with a gutsy narrow victory in Friday’s $300,000 Bed o’ Roses Stakes (G3) at Belmont Park.

Estilo Talentoso broke outward from the far outside post in the scratch-shortened field of six older horses and mares under Javier Castellano and remained outside in the clear, avoiding early kickback from the sloppy (sealed) main track.

The 9/5 favorite Victim of Love set a pressured pace inside Pacific Gale through opening fractions of :22.90 and :45.87, but a rallying Estilo Talentoso came flying late and took over command near the 1/16 pole.

Digging in gamely to keep Lake Avenue at bay, Estilo Talentoso crossed a neck clear while completing the 7-furlong dirt sprint in 1:22.96.

“That’s what I was looking for today,” Castellano said. “Everything worked out perfect, the way it was set up. The two speed horses (went to the front) and I tried to keep … outside because there seemed to be a lot of puddles on the rail, but my horse helped me to handle the situation very well. When I asked her, she responded very well and did it very well.”

Lake Avenue was 1 3/4 lengths clear of Bayerness. Pacific Gale, Victim of Love, and Alandra completed the order of finish.

Chub Wagon and Piedi Bianchi scratched.

Estilo Talentoso’s win was the third of her career and second at the stakes ranks following last August’s Escena at Gulfstream Park. The 4-year-old Maclean’s Music filly has never missed the board (8 seconds, 3 thirds) in 14 starts and increased her earnings mark to $423,538 for co-owners Medallion Racing, Barry Fowler, Parkland Thoroughbreds, Little Red Feather Racing, and BlackRidge Stables.

“I feel like I’m blessed,” Arriagada said. “To be in Belmont today and to win with her, it’s one of the more beautiful things that could happen in my life right now. I appreciate the owners giving me the opportunity. She is very special to me, that’s the only thing I can tell you.”

Estilo Talentoso returned $7.40 to win, $4 to place, and $2.40 to show. Lake Avenue brought back $5.80 to place and $3.80 to show. Bayerness paid $3.40 to show.
