‘All Other 3-Year-Olds’ Favorite in Pool 4 of Kentucky Derby Future Wager; Tiz the Law, Nadal Co-Second Choices

LOUISVILLE, KY – With a rescheduled Kentucky Derby still 22 weeks away, the pari-mutuel field of “All Other 3-Year-Olds” has been made the 5-2 morning line favorite for Pool 4 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager (“KDFW”), which begins a three-day run Friday, April 3 and closes Sunday, April 5 at 6 p.m. EDT.

Unbeaten Rebel Stakes (G2) winner Nadal and Florida Derby (G1) hero Tiz the Law are the 6-1 co-second choices with San Felipe (G2) winner Authentic and undefeated Charlatan close behind at 8-1 on veteran odds maker Mike Battaglia’s morning line.

On March 17, Churchill Downs Incorporated announced the 146th running of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) would be rescheduled from Saturday, May 2 to Saturday, Sept. 5 amid public health concerns in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Churchill Downs officials have been working with other prominent partner tracks to add additional “Road to the Kentucky Derby” races and determine the various paths to the Kentucky Derby starting gate that enable the horses in the best form to compete. An updated schedule of races will be announced in the coming weeks as separate discussions with state and local governments and all appropriate parties to determine the most suitable time to conduct those races continue.

Tiz the Law, a two-time Grade 1-winning son of Constitution, sits atop of the Road to the Kentucky Derby Leaderboard with 122 points. Trained by veteran conditioner Barclay Tagg, Tiz the Law sports a stout record of 5-4-0-1—$945,300 following his 4 ½-length victory in last Saturday’s Florida Derby.

Nadal, who captured Oaklawn Park’s Rebel by three-quarters of a length after setting a torrid pace on the front end, is one of four KDFW individual horses conditioned by Hall of Fame and five-time Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Bob Baffert. The others are Authentic, Charlatan and Thousand Words

The Kentucky Derby Future Wager features $2 Win and Exacta wagering, and provides fans of Thoroughbred racing with opportunities to place bets on possible entrants in the Kentucky Derby at odds that could be far greater than those available on the day of the race.

Bets for the KDFW can be placed on TwinSpires.com and other online wagering outlets across North America. There are no refunds in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Should Churchill Downs officials determine during the duration of the three-day pool that one of the wagering interests has experienced an injury, illness or other circumstance that would prevent the horse from participating in the Kentucky Derby, betting on the individual horse will be suspended immediately.

Following the announcement of the rescheduled Kentucky Derby, Churchill Downs officials said it will continue to honor all bets made in the previous future wager pools.

“We took into account precedents and how other sports betting outlets handle similar wagers on future sporting events such as the NBA,” said Churchill Downs Racetrack spokesperson Darren Rogers. “The final consensus is all bets are ‘action’ as long as a winner is declared in 2020. The majority of tickets possessed have promising prospects and high potential. At the time of the rescheduling of the Derby, more than 75-percent of the money in the three Win pools of the previous Future Wagers was on well-meant horses within many Top 20 lists.”

In addition to this week’s Pool 4, Churchill Downs received permission from the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission to host additional KDFW pools this summer. The dates are pending.
