King Glorious Preview: Good With People Goes For Stakes Treble

CYPRESS, CA – Kirk and Judy Robison homebred Good With People goes for a stakes treble in Sunday’s $100,000 King Glorious Stakes at Los Alamitos.

The King Glorious is a 1-mile dirt route restricted to California-bred or sired juveniles. This year’s edition is the penultimate event on the meet closing day’s 10-race card and has a local post time of 3:58 PM.

Here’s a look at the full field for the King Glorious:

1. Club Cal 20/1 – He graduated at third asking over this course and distance on December 6, conquering state-bred $50k maiden claimers by 4 lengths under Edwin Maldonado. His improvement may have been due to the class drop or to it being his dirt route debut; either way, it’s notable that it came on the same ground as this, and that Maldonado retains the mount.

2. Wedding Groom 30/1 – He failed to hit the board against open company starter allowance rivals in a pair of Del Mar dirt sprints. Though this will be his first time routing, his pedigree says that he should be well-suited for it, and his lone victory (against state-bred maiden $50k claimers) came going the longest distance (6 1/2 furlongs) that he’s attempted thus far.

3. Tacoflavoredkisses 6/1 – The first of four multiple-winning entries in the field makes his third attempt at winning a state-bred stakes after finishing third in the I’m Smokin and sixth in the Golden State Juvenile. The good news is that Umberto Rispoli (aboard for his maiden win) returns to ride; the bad news is that the horse who won both of those stakes returns, too.

4. Positivity 3/1 – He won 2 straight to start his career including the Graduation Stakes, then was sold privately and transferred to new trainer Paddy Gallagher. His first start from the barn saw him finish second by just 3/4 of a length in the Golden State Juvenile, which was also his first race in 3 months. He’s cross-entered in Saturday’s Los Alamitos Futurity (G2).

5. From the Get Go 30/1 – After finishing second on debut against open company $32k claimers, he defeated state-bred $50k claimers by 3/4 of a length while covering 5 1/2 furlongs at Del Mar. He was a well-beaten sixth against open company starter allowance rivals (one ahead of Wedding Groom) and will attempt routing for the first time here.

6. Mister Bold 5/2 – He’s undefeated after 2 starts, both 5 1/2-furlong dirt sprints at Del Mar, and retains Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, aboard for his most recent effort when he rallied from last to whip starter allowance foes and earn a strong 74 Beyer Speed Figure. He defeated state-bred $50k maiden claimers (including Wedding Groom) on debut by 4 1/2 lengths.

7. Ascot Storm 5/1 – He defeated a state-bred maiden special weight field by 4 3/4 lengths while making his debut in a 5 1/2-furlong dirt sprint at Santa Anita Park. Sold privately and transferred to the John Sadler barn, he finished third in the Golden State Juvenile and now reunites with the meet’s leading rider Juan Hernandez (through Thursday), aboard in the debut.

8. Good With People 7/2 – The only runner in the field with 3 wins, he accomplished 2 of those in stakes: the I’m Smokin and the Golden State Juvenile. The quick-footed Peter Miller trainee will attempt routing for the first time, and though he’s a deserving favorite against this group, he’ll have to break sharply in order to overcome this post and avoid racing too wide.

9. Govenor’s Party 50/1 – He was kissed into victory via disqualification last time out when he finished second behind a horse who bulled past him roughly at the top of the stretch. That came against open company $40k maiden claimers in a 1-mile Del Mar dirt route, making him the only dirt route winner in the field.

10. Play Chicken 6/1 – He won his debut, a 1-mile Santa Anita Park turf route against state-bred maiden special weight company, while racing on or near the lead throughout. His dirt debut saw him finish a well-beaten fifth in the Golden State Juvenile, but perhaps returning to route can give him a boost. Owner/breeder Reddam Racing and trainer Doug O’Neill won this race in 2015 and 2016.

11. Moving Fast (Also Eligible) 6/1 – He broke his maiden at third asking when stretching out to a mile on the Del Mar turf against state-breds, running from off the pace to win by a 1/2-length. He finished fifth behind Ascot Storm in their collective debuts and third in a 6 1/2-furlong dirt sprint next, so was it the surface or the added distance that made the difference?

12. Bobby’s Alibi (Also Eligible) 20/1 – He’ll try to make his dirt route debut and first start over the surface since finishing sixth in a 5-furlong sprint at Pleasanton. He broke his maiden at fourth asking against open company $25k claimers while going 6 furlongs on Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic main track and finished second in 2 subsequent starts over the same surface.
