NYRA Preview: 3/14 Correction Stakes

Race 8: Correction Stakes: fillies and mares 4-years-old and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

The 80^th running of the Correction Stakes is the feature race of the day here at the Big A as part of today’s nine-race card. Let’s start with my top choice #2 Bridlewood Cat who will make her fifth career start for Jonathan Thomas. By Street Sense, she was purchased in 2017 as a yearling for $750,000 and had lofty expectations early on in her career. Since her faulty debut at Tampa Bay Downs, she has gotten better with each and every start. Since coming to the NYRA circuit, she’s won 2/3 races and ran fourth as a heavy favorite last time out. She held very good company in her most recent effort finishing behind one of her competitors Piedi Bianchi, a winner on yesterday’s card Honey I’m Good, and Fair Regis, a talented runner formerly of Jason Servis’ barn. Look for Bridlewood Cat to grab the lead early, as she possesses top end speed compared to the other six runners. Leah Gyarmati’s filly Kept True is another one to keep an eye on. She’s finished either first or second in her last 6/7 races her on the NYRA circuit. Her lone fifth place finish came in the Grade II Prioress Stakes this past summer at Saratoga. Finishing behind Royal Charlotte, Break Even, and Risky Mandate is no shame at all. Like Bridlewood Cat, she does possess early speed, but she is not as quick out of the gate. Dylan Davis will have a choice to make whether he sends Kept True to the lead to chase Bridlewood Cat out of the gate. I don’t tend favor deep closers in six-furlong sprints, but Piedi Bianchi may be sitting on a big effort here for Carlos Martin. Carlos Martin has one win at Aqueduct since 2020 and it comes via this 5-year-old filly back on January 26. As I mentioned previously, she beat Bridlewood Cat who chased Honey I’m Good around the track. Piedi Bianchi has been in every situation imaginable running at various distances over eight different tracks throughout her career. Her best efforts have come at shorter distances and make her dangerous in this spot.
