Today marks the 33rd Running of the NYSSS (New York Stallion Series Stakes) for 2-year-old fillies going 7 furlongs on the dirt. This opportunity presents one of the last time 2-year-olds can make their mark before they kick off their 3-year-old campaign. There is also one maiden special weight race today that I’ve previewed today as we end the weekend on the right note.
Aqueduct Fall Meet Statistics (11/7-12/14)
Races | Top 4 Wins | Top 4 Exactas | Top 4 Trifectas | Top 4 Supers |
33 | 24 | 14 | 5 | 1 |
Race 1: $68,000 MSW for fillies and mares 3-years-old and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt
#3 Royal Flag is clearly the filly to beat in this field of five. She was the post-time favorite in her debut but failed to hit the winners’ circle first time out. This one-turn mile should suit her much better than the 6 1/2 furlongs she ran back on September 20 at Belmont Park. There is enough early speed in the race for Manny Franco to sit just off the pace and pass tired horses late in the stretch.
Ricky’s Picks: 3-1-5-2
