As the excitement toward Cigar Mile day heats up, so does the Empire 6 at the Big A. Today is the last day to get involved before the mandatory payout on Saturday 12/7. There are two maiden special weight (MSW) races that I’ve covered with two great opportunities to make some money.

Race 1: $70,000 MSW for fillies and mares 3-years-old and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt
The opener at the Big A provides a different spark as every horse in this field of seven could have a say in the outcome of the race. The horse who caught my eye is the #6 Lots to Like. I tend to stay away from 3-year-olds who have not made their debut until this late in the calendar year, but this filly has looked spectacular in the mornings. The other horses with experience haven’t shown much and Joel Rosario should inspire confidence in the betting public.
Ricky’s Picks: 6-5-4-2

Race 3: $62,000 MSW for New-York-bred 2-year-old fillies going 6 furlongs on the outer turf
This race provides a good opportunity to find some value in horses that normally shouldn’t get a second look. #3 Medellin does not have any past experience to go off of, but her sire Japan did have some success here on the NYRA circuit finishing first in the Easy Goer Stakes at Belmont Park and finishing third in the Jim Dandy up at Saratoga. This is certainly a race to take a shot with a price and with 6/1 morning line odds, Medellin provides a lot of value.
Ricky’s Picks: 3-2-9-4
