NYRA Preview: Aqueduct 11/9

Today’s card features two maiden special weight (MSW) races that have two very different perspectives. Both races are must watch races and should bring plenty of excitement to the Big A on this brisk Friday afternoon.

Race 2: $70,000 MSW for fillies and mares 3-years-old and upward going 1 mile on the inner turf

Christophe Clement is back at in on the turf with his 3-year-old filly #9 Smack. Her best effort was her most recent one on October 14 at Belmont Park. She tends to run just off the leaders and a similar effort should be expected today from Joel Rosario. I expect her to let Balon Rose get to the front on her own but look to run her down in the stretch.

Race 5: $70,000 MSW for 2-year-old fillies going 1 1/16 miles (8.5 furlongs) on the inner turf

This is one of the most talented 2-year-old fields that we will see here at the Big A. Rudy Rodriguez has seemed to find his best form with his runners as of late and there’s no reason to expect that to stop. #2 Water White is next in line to be one of Rudy’s talented youngsters at the fall meet. She makes her debut on turf which looks to be a positive move due to her build. She doesn’t have much dirt pedigree but just has the look of a turf runner who will enjoy going this distance at first ask.

Race 10: $70,000 MSW for 2-year-old maidens going 7 furlongs on the dirt

The best bet of the day comes in the finale with #3 Toledo. By Into Mishcief, his dirt pedigree speaks for itself. He didn’t make his debut until late September but he certainly impressed. He broke away very well out of the 9 post and Irad Ortiz did a nice job of positioning him nicely in the backstretch. Irad was forced to take him four-wide into the stretch and ultimately flattened out. The switch to an inside post and a race under his belt makes him very dangerous in this spot.

Ricky’s Picks: 3-5-4-8
