Cambier Parc Shows Tremendous Class in Herecomesthebride

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Fresh off of her maiden-breaking effort over this same course and distance on January 2, OXO Equine’s Cambier Parc showed tremendous class when put through the acid test and winning Saturday’s Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park.

Breaking from post 7 as the 4/5 favorite under Jose Ortiz, Cambier Parc was able to clear most of her foes and crossed down to sit just off the right hip of early leader Belle Laura through opening fractions of :24.48 and :49.67. Ranging up in the far turn to run stride for stride with the pacesetter, Cambier Parc hit the top of the stretch with a slim lead, but Belle Laura fought back along the inside. Princesa Carolina joined the fray along the outside in midstretch, but Cambier Parc’s talent and class proppeled her forward late. The Chad Brown trainee crossed with a 3/4-length advantage in a final time of 1:42.03 for the 1 1/16-mile event over the firm turf course.

“She broke really well,” Ortiz said. “I wasn’t sure if anybody else was going to go to the lead, but (Belle Laura) went ahead and I was sitting in a beautiful position in the first turn, so I just tried to get her to relax, and she did. She gave me everything I asked for and she was there for me.”

Princesa Carolina was able to get up for second in the shadow of the wire by a 1/2-length over Belle Laura. Primela necked out fourth over Vow to Recover, with Golconda a head back in sixth. Connectivity and My Gal Betty completed the order of finish.

Cambier Parc’s win was her second straight in as many attempts on turf and going two turns. Purchased for $1.25 million as a yearling, the 3-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro has now earned $120,210.

“She’s learned a lot with more experience and maturity,” Brown said. “She’s a horse we’ve always liked and she’s been looking better as she’s gotten older. I think once we got her on the grass, we found her niche, and I think she has a bright future ahead of her. From here, we may go to the Belmont Oaks (G1) in July. I think she’ll stay a mile and 1/4; how we get there, I’m not sure. I’ll talk to the owner, Larry Best, but in the meantime, we’ll enjoy this win. We’re very excited about the season coming up.”

Cambier Parc returned $3.60 to win, $2.80 to place, and $2.40 to show. Princesa Carolina brought back $12.40 to place and $7.20 to show, while Belle Laura paid $4.20 to show.
