News Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: Turf Racing Reigns Supreme August 13, 2018 News Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: Turf Racing Reigns Supreme August 13, 2018 By: Aaron Halterman twitterfacebooklinkedinemail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article Last weekend it was all about turf racing. Arlington Park provided us a thrilling rendition of the Arlington Million, and other great races on the card as well. The weather was once again terrible at Saratoga, but they were able to get the Grade 1 Fourstardave Handicap in on the turf, and is did not disappoint. Lets check out our latest Three Stars of the Week: 1. Robert Bruce It’s Chad Brown’s world, we’re just living in it! As they turned for home it looked as though the Chad Brown trained Almanaar was going to win the Grade 1 Arlington Million, but was nipped at the wire by the late charing Chad Brown trained (of course) Robert Bruce. Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. gave an incredibly patient ride, which paid off in a big way in the end as the horse trail most of the field for a big part of the race. Robert Bruce has only lost one time in three starts in the United States, and now has a spot in the Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf in November. This kind of performance shows that he is a world class type of horse, and with Chad Brown on his side the sky could be the limit for this horse. 2. Sistercharlie Did I mention it’s Chad Brown’s world? Once again he conquered a Grade 1 race, this time in the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes. Sistercharlie has the Filly and Mare Turf division on lock down right now after her second straight big time win. As usual, she dropped towards the back of the pack, but stayed within range of the leader in the early stages of the race. Turning for home she was clearly loaded, and simply ran past the front runners with ease while holding off Fourstar Crook as she charged at her late. This win gives her an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf, and if the race were today there is no doubt she would be the favorite. 3. Voodoo Song The King of Saratoga does it once again! Voodoo Song made it a perfect five for five at The Spa with his first Grade 1 win in the Grade 1 Fourstardave Handicap. Like always, the Linda Rice trained horse got to the front early, while setting reasonable fractions all by himself. Turning for home the late closers started to make their move, but Voodoo Song had just enough left in the tank to hold off Delta Prince by a neck. Rice said the Breeders’ Cup will be in his sights now after this impressive win, and that she will work backwards from that race. If the Breeders’ Cup was at Saratoga he’d be a lock!
