Race Recaps Broadway Run Wires $100,000 Coronation Cup July 30, 2018 Race Recaps Broadway Run Wires $100,000 Coronation Cup July 30, 2018 By: Curtis "Magic" Kalleward twitteremail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Curragh Stables’ Broadway Run found the speed-favoring Saratoga turf course to her liking on Monday, riding the rail to a front-running wire-to-wire score in the $100,000 Coronation Cup Stakes. Breaking sharply from the outside post 10 under Luis Saez, Broadway Run hustled to beat the 7-2 favorite Mominou to the lead and was able to safely cross over to the rail before entering the far turn and setting an open 1/4 mile fraction of :22.60. Given the cue as she neared the front stretch, Broadway Run was able to continue outrunning her foes to the wire and crossed with a 3/4-length advantage in a final time of 1:03.67 for the 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint. “I wanted to break running, and if I was in the lead, I would take it,” Saez said. “If not, I would sit right there. She’s pretty fast. I work her and she’s a kind filly. (My plan was) to break and see what position we were going to end up. When I saw everybody take a hold, I went to the lead, and she just kept on going.” Originator and Lady Suebee both ranged near the winner exiting the far turn but were unable to close and pass, instead having to settle for second and third, respectively. Tesora closed late from near the rear to take fourth, while Closer Still crossed in fifth and Mominou headed Factorofwon for sixth. Classy Dancer, Brattata, and Flashly completed the order of finish. Broadway Run’s win was her second in three career starts, both of which came at Belmont Park. The John Terranova-trained 3-year-old daughter of Prospective has now earned $115,400 for her connections. “When they’re fast, they’re fast,” Terranova said. “She’s very classy and a good-minded filly. She’s just gone forward mentally and physically since we got here. We didn’t know if we were going to cut her back to 5 1/2 (furlongs) or stretch her out a little bit. She has that big, heavy-body style. She looks (like) a sprinter. But we figured (for) another start, we’d at least run her short. If we need to stretch her out down the road, we will. Hopefully, she develops and we’ll have options down the road.” Broadway Run returned $13.40 to win, $6.70 to place, and $5.30 to show. Originator brought back $5.90 to place and $3.90 to show, while Lady Suebee paid $7.60 to show.
