Race Recaps Got Stormy Rips Away in G3 Ontario Colleen July 21, 2018 Race Recaps Got Stormy Rips Away in G3 Ontario Colleen July 21, 2018 By: Curtis "Magic" Kalleward twitteremail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article TORONTO, ON – Gary Barber’s Got Stormy continued her torrid trek through the 3-year-old turf fillies division on Saturday, shipping north to Woodbine and ripping away with ease to take the Grade 3, $125,000 Ontario Colleen Stakes. Breaking sharply from post 6 as the prohibitive 3-5 favorite, Got Stormy soon settled back into a stalking position while Ladies Night set initial splits of :24.82 and :48.86. Soon, Got Stormy grew tired of watching and ran past the early leader in before completing 3/4 of a mile in 1:12.02. Taking full command entering the stretch, Got Stormy opened up with ease in the stretch and cruised in-hand to an easy 2-length score in a final time of 1:34.59 for the mile-long turf event. “She’s a very keen filly and this is the first time I got on her,” Husbands said. “Mark called me this morning and said, ‘Patrick, try to see if you can get her to relax,’ because at Woodbine, we have (one) turn, there’s a big straightaway. She ran back to her form. The last two races that she won, she won pretty easy, so she showed that she was the best today.” A. A. Azula’s Arch chased gamely along the rail and was up for second by 3/4 of a length over a fading Ladies Night. Armoricaine took fourth over Safe to Say, with Get Explicit, Peach of a Gal, and Fairy Hill completing the order of finish. Got Stormy’s win was her third straight stakes score, following similar success in the $200,000 Penn Oaks and the $100,000 Wild Applause Stakes. The 3-year-old daughter of Get Stormy improved her record to 8-4-0-2 with career earnings of $283,978. “She’s fabulous,” said assistant trainer Kathryn Sullivan. “It’s nice to see her get a graded win today, that really moves her up. Mr. Barber has been a great client for us. He loves horse racing.” Got Stormy returned $3.40 to win, $2.40 to place, and $2.10 to show. A. A. Azula’s Arch brought back $6 to place and $4.20 to show, while Ladies Night paid $15.80 to show.
