News Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: Biscuits in Dubai April 2, 2018 News Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: Biscuits in Dubai April 2, 2018 By: Aaron Halterman twitterfacebooklinkedinemail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article Holy Biscuits! Saturday was jammed-pack full of racing action that started in the morning with Dubai and ended with the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park. Nearly every Dubai performance could have made this list, and we also saw some very worthy performances stateside as well. When all the dust settled, see who we thought were most deserving of our Three Stars of the Week: 1. Mind Your Biscuits How the hell did he do that?! The Meydan dirt track was a speedway for horses on the front end, as nearly every winner went wire-to-wire, but not this horse! Mind Your Biscuits dropped back to last right out of the gate, and visually, he had no shot all the way up the back side. In fact, with 300 meters to go, he wasn’t even on the screen! Then, like a rocket, he began to pick off horses with one of the most dramatic stretch runs you will ever see. It climaxed when he passed X Y Jet right at the wire to pick up his second straight Group 1 Golden Shaheen victory. Both of his Dubai wins have come in thrilling fashion; he won from the 14 hole last year, then from the rail this year. Simply put: this is one special horse. 2. Mendelssohn Say hello to the Kentucky Derby, Mendelssohn! His Group 2 UAE Derby performance was one for the ages. Mendelssohn shot straight to the front and never looked back, dominating his rivals while picking up an eye-popping 18 1/2-length victory. The UAE Derby was his first race on the dirt, and after that performance, you have to wonder why it took his connections so long. He got over the surface like a pro and has squarely become an overwhelming contender for the Kentucky Derby. This high-dollar yearling looks to be well worth his purchase price. 3. Thunder Snow The 2017 Kentucky Derby’s bucking bronco is now a Dubai World Cup winner. Thunder Snow will always be remembered in the United States for his crazy Kentucky Derby antics, but now, he’s a worldwide superstar and a very rich race horse. The place to be at Dubai was on the front end, and Thunder Snow wasted little time getting to the lead. Once he did, the race was seemingly over, as he cruised around the track with ease to win. Heavy favorite West Coast could not come up with any sort of rally and had to settle for second. There will be plenty of options for Thunder Snow now, as he is a proven commodity on the dirt and the turf.
