Today we are going to take a shot at a couple of baseball games from the American League and see if we can get lucky with the National Pastime. Picking baseball games is tricky because so much depends on pitching and pitchers are as unpredictable as the weather. Let’s see if we can pick out a couple of winners for tonight.

Texas Rangers 25-28 at Cleveland Guardians 24-25: Texas comes into Cleveland having lost 4 of their last 5, while the Guardians have won 5 of 6. The pitching matchup favors Cleveland as the Rangers send John Gray to the mound with a record of 1-2 and a 4.83 ERA. Cleveland will counter with Cal Quantrill who is 2-3 with a 3.52 ERA. He is coming off of a quality start going 6+ innings and giving up 3 earned runs. Cleveland is above average in all offensive categories and have the advantage of playing at home with a ton of momentum. There is some value in taking the Guardians. Seattle Mariners 24-30 at Houston Astros 35-19: The Astros host the Mariners tonight and they are clearly the better team. But, this is baseball and anything is possible. Seattle will start the series with Robbie Ray, who was acquired in the offseason to be a mainstay for the Mariners’ pitching staff. That hasn’t been the case as he is 4-6 with a 4.93 ERA. He has allowed 3 or more runs in 4 of his last 5 starts, and he will need to be in better form against a good Houston batting order. The Astros will send out Cristian Javier who has been in excellent form allowing 1 run or less in 4 of his last 5 starts.
