Breeders' Cup Where are they Now: 2014 Breeders’ Cup Winners October 7, 2015 Breeders' Cup Where are they Now: 2014 Breeders’ Cup Winners October 7, 2015 By: Aaron Halterman twitterfacebooklinkedinemail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article No matter what sport you follow things are constantly changing. It’s just a face of life. However, horse racing is to the extreme. In just one year everything can and usually does change. New stars emerge almost daily while the established stars are retired or lose from at the drop of the hat. As we move towards the 2015 Breeders’ Cup its crystal clear how last October will have no effect on this October. In fact the six biggest draws in the Breeders Cup Classic (American Pharoah, Beholder, Keen Ice, Honor Code, Liam’s Map, and Frosted) didn’t even run in any race on the two day card last year. Lets take a look back at last years winners, and where they are now. Classic Winner: Bayern – RETIRED After winning the Classic Bayern took the rest of the year off after a long and difficult campaign. The problem is…he never come back from vacation even though they still tried to run him in 2015. Back to Back off the board “never a factor” efforts in the Churchill Downs Stakes and Met Mile were alarming, but his poor efforts in the San Diego Handicap and Pacific Classic were even more alarming. He has since been retired after another subpar at best effort to finish third in a weak running of the Awesome Again Stakes. Mile Winner: Karakontie – ACTIVE He actually has a shot at repeating in this wide open event this year. The Japanese shipper is pointing for this race again after only two starts since winning so impressively last year. Both of those starts weren’t bad, but they also weren’t winning efforts. Much like last year he remains a mystery. Sprint Winner: Work All Week – ACTIVE…LOST FORM Its hard to believe, but this monster has just won victory in 2015 and it came in an ungraded stakes at Mountaineer! Work All Week has lost form since running the race of his life last year, but looked pretty decent finishing third in a sloppy version of the Phoenix at Keeneland. Will try his luck again at the end of the month, but will be far from the favorite. Turf Sprint Winner: Bobby’s Kitten – ACTIVE…LOST FORM Has made just two starts since winning the Turf Sprint from the clouds last year, and both of those starts were terrible. There is no questioning he’s been wildly disappointing through out most of his career, but perhaps the turf sprint will be the right distance for him yet again as the horse that can’t seem to relax. Like Work All Week, he will not be the favorite to repeat.
