Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Gulfstream Park, Kentucky Downs and Laurel Park Picks for September 11, 2021

Ricky’s Rockets 🚀 is back at Kentucky Downs on Saturday afternoon, with only a couple of days left in this meet. The last time they raced here on Thursday afternoon, we swept both Pick 4’s and both Pick 5’s! Let’s get back to it, and keep the momentum going. There are five stakes races on the card, all of which are graded stakes as well.

Kentucky Downs September 11, 2021

Race 8: FanDuel Turf Sprint Stakes (G3) for 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the turf

#9 Got Stormy proved everyone she’s still got it, with her win in the Fourstardave Handicap (G1) last month. She’s extremely talented, and she won her only race over this turf in the Kentucky Downs Ladies Sprint Stakes last year. #12 Imprimis is looking for his first win since January, when he won at Gulfstream. In this race last year, he won over a soft turf course. 

Race 9: Calumet Turf Cup Stakes (G2) for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/2 miles (12 furlongs) on the turf

#4 Tide of the Sea will want the lead when they break from the gate. The last time he went 12 furlongs, he lost to Gufo by only a length at Belmont Park. #5 Arklow hasn’t been the same since he ran in the Louisville Stakes (G3) back in May. The speed hasn’t been holding up all that well, which is a great sign for him.

Race 10: Franklin-Simpson Stakes (G2) for 3-year-olds going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf

#6 Next broke his maiden here at Kentucky Downs last year, taking this field the majority of the way. John Velazquez has been aboard in all of his races this year. #7 Annex ran extremely well in the Hall of Fame Stakes (G2) last time out, at a big price. He won’t be that price again, but it’s fair to assume he will run another good race.

Race 11: Maiden Special Weight for 2-year-olds going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#2 Baj ran extremely well on debut for Saffie Joseph Jr. going two turns on the turf. He was 32/1 on debut and certainly outran his odds finishing fourth by just two lengths. #10 Seal Beach makes his turf debut after two dirt starts to begin his career. Mike Maker had to switch it up, after taking a step black once he put the blinkers on.
