Race Recaps Thewayiam Continues Hot Streak In G3 Herecomesthebride March 3, 2018 Race Recaps Thewayiam Continues Hot Streak In G3 Herecomesthebride March 3, 2018 By: Curtis "Magic" Kalleward twitteremail Share: share on facebook share on twitter share on linkedin email this article HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Trainer Graham Motion’s Thewayiam continued her hot streak at Gulfstream Park, running up the rail down the stretch to score her third straight stakes win in Saturday’s Grade 3, $100,000 Herecomesthebride. After breaking well from post 3 under Jose Ortiz, Thewayiam settled in mid-pack while My Favorite Gift led through splits of :23.77, :48.33, and 1:12.34. As the field closed in on the leader and began fanning out coming off of the far turn, a hole along the rail opened for the Thewayiam, and the French-bred filly burst through before kicking away late to win by 1 3/4 lengths in a final time of 1:41.41 for the 8 1/2-furlong turf event. “I went to the fence and saved all the ground,” Ortiz said. “I stayed there, and when it was time to go, she responded really, really well.” Amertume, running close to the lead throughout, was forced to run wider through the far turn than she probably wanted and didn’t have enough to run with the winner. She hit the wire by a head over Brattata, while a late-running Princess War took fourth by a nose over My Favorite Gift. She’s Pretty Lucky, Malibu Saint, and Queen Rose completed the order of finish. Thewayiam’s win improved her record to 8-5-0-1 with career earnings of $231,537. The 3-year-old daughter of Thewayyouare is owned in partnership by Great Point Stables, Michael Dubb, The Elkstone Group, and Bethlehem Stables. “She seems to be getting better and better,” Dubb said. “She seems to be push-button. Jose really knows this horse. She’s not afraid of the rail, she’s not afraid to split horses. He knows he can save ground and make his one move.” Thewayiam returned $5 to win, $2.80 to place, and $2.20 to show. Amertume brought back $3.60 to place and $2.60 to show, while Brattata paid $2.80 to show.
