Treasuring Terrific in G3 Senorita

ARCADIA, CA –  Treasuring took the win in Saturday’s Grade 3, $100,000 Senorita Stakes at Santa Anita. This was the first victory on US soil for the three-year-old filly who is trained by Simon Callaghan and owned by Qatar Racing Ltd.

Three horses, Treasuring, Pursuing the Dream, and May Girl together took right to the front in an early fight for the lead. The trio entered the first turn three wide until the lead was finally surrendered to the speedy Treasuring who took the opportunity to get a full length in front, all the while setting fractions of :23.04 and :46.47. The morning-line favorite West Palm Beach meanwhile sat back at the rear and never really made up any ground.

Movie Moment, who was sitting back in fourth, made a move to the front, however, her effort was not enough as both Pursuing the Dream and Treasuring were able to hold her off. Treasuring continued to hold on down the stretch, eventually crossing the wire first 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Pursuing the Dream. Consolida made a nice stretch run to finish fourth just behind Movie Moment who crossed the line third.

“I think on paper she was the most proven horse in the race, graded-stakes wise,” said the winning jockey Brice Blanc. “I think she had the class, but a lot of people liked (West Palm Beach) too. I think my filly came from tougher races, and she was already a Group 3 winner in Europe. She’s run against better and better horses the last few races.”

Treasuring returned $11.80 to win, $5.20 to place, and $3.60 to show. Pursuing the Dream brought back $6.40 to place and $4.00 to show, while Movie Moment paid $4.20 to show.
