8. The value of winning the Kentucky Oaks isn’t all that appealing

Not that winning the race means nothing…it certainly is an honor to win the historic event.  However, in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t mean as much as some might think.  In fact only five of the last ten winners have went on to win the Eclipse Award at the end of the year for 3 year old filly of the year.  Last years winner Lovely Maria wasn’t even nominated for the award as she struggled the second half of the year.
