3. It’s unfair to hold her back for the misfortune of Eight Belles

Rick Porter tried to run a filly once in the Kentucky Derby, and it ended in absolute tragedy.  Eight Belles was one of the best fillies I’ve ever seen, and finished a game second in the 2008 Kentucky Derby before breaking down shortly after the wire.  I can understand the distain Rick Porter feels about this…I think we all felt it to a smaller degree.  It was so heartbreaking.  However, it was also a freak accident and not the fault of anyone involved with the filly.  A break down in horse racing can happen any time a horse steps onto the track.  Holding Songbird back because of the past would not be right.
