Three Kentucky Derby 2020 Longshots That Could BLOW UP the Superfecta

It’s finally Kentucky Derby week, which means that every handicapper is diligently searching for a longshot who will bring home a massive score. This year’s superfecta could pay lighter than usual, so it’ll be extra critical to find at least one longshot who can spice up the payouts.

One great thing about betting the Kentucky Derby is that you frequently get better odds on horses than you would in any other race. Even if the favorite wins, the exotics will still pay because the large field really spreads out the money being bet.

With that said, here are three longshot horses who could help make a bigger Superfecta payout than expected:

1. Thousand Words (15/1)

It’s been a long, strange, trip for this horse. He was one of the early favorites for the Kentucky Derby after winning the Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G3) back in February, but things went south and he lost his next three starts badly. Just when it seemed he was an afterthought, the Bob Baffert trainee sprung back to life and upset Honor A. P. last time out in the Shared Belief Stakes. He seems to be heading in the right direction and the added distance here should be right up his alley. As a bonus, he picks up jockey Florent Geroux, whose style should fit him pretty well.

2. Enforceable (30/1)

This is the typical closer who could pass tired horses down the lane and clunk up for third or fourth at a big price. He’s had terrible trips in his last few races, so some racing luck could be on his side this time. The Kentucky Derby will also be his second race back from a layoff after he showed decent form at Fair Grounds earlier in the year. Trainer Mark Casse does a good job with getting horses ready for the biggest races of the year and Enforceable has been training well leading up to this start, so if the pace is hot up front, he’ll have a shot at picking up the pieces late.

3. Ny Traffic (20/1)

Many will bypass this horse because he’s still looking for his first graded stakes victory, but he’s been steadily improving with each start and as the distances got longer. Last time out, he nearly pulled off a major upset in the Haskell Stakes (G1) at Monmouth Park, narrowly losing to winner Authentic while closing ground with every stride. His running style should suit this race perfectly and give him a tactical advantage over several rivals, most of whom lack a major turn of foot. This is the type of year when a grind-it-out type like Ny Traffic can hit the board.
