The Gomper – Why He’s a Horse to Follow This Triple Crown Season

The Gomper – Why He’s a Horse to Follow This Triple Crown Season

II.) FACTS OF NOTE SO FAR
-He won first time out for Ron Ellis – something you don’t normally see. Ron Ellis is a very capable horseman having already trained an eclipse award champion two-year-old colt Declan’s Moon.

-He was a tick off of the track record in his first race at Los Alimitos. The fact he almost set a track record at a sprint distances is another sign of his potential talent since everything about his pedigree cries distance and not sprints!

-His jockey is Joe Talamo (a jockey that I think will likely win hard a Kentucky Derby before he retires).

-He makes a great move on the far turn – something I always look for in a horse. Why? Because a horse who can handle turns well is generally a very athletic horse. This was one of the differences between the big and bulky Easy Goer and the athletic Sunday Silence. Easy Goer could not make up ground on the turn as easily as Sunday Silence could and this have Sunday Silence an edge on him. As proof go back and watch the 1989 Preakness Stakes and see how Sunday Silence handles the far turn at Pimlico – it is a display of real athleticism!

-He has an incredible turn of foot and literally seems to gobble up ground.

-He’s a big horse who seems to be still growing and improving (That’s scary to think about!)
