BENSALEM, PA – A deep field of ten 3-year-olds drew into the field for the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (G1) and nine tough female counterparts will contest the $1 million Cotillion Stakes (G1) Saturday at Parx Racing.
The 1 1/8-mile Pennsylvania Derby and the 1 1/16-mile Cotillion were not run in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The star-studded Pennsylvania Derby lineup features seven graded stakes winners including Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Medina Spirit, who rebounded from his Preakness Stakes (G1) defeat to win the Shared Belief Stakes last time out.
Hot Rod Charlie returns to the track after being disqualified from winning the Haskell Stakes (G1) due to crossing over and clipping heels with Midnight Bourbon, who fell but has since recovered and will seek his revenge in this event.

Not to be outdone, the sophomore fillies brought the heat with their own set of seven graded stakes winners among the nine entries, including local hopeful Leader of the Band, winner of July’s 1 1/16-mile Monmouth Oaks (G3).
Four rivals return for a rematch after competing in last month’s 1 1/4-mile Alabama Stakes (G1) at Saratoga: Clairiere (second), Army Wife (third), Will’s Secret (fourth), and Maracuja (seventh). The winner Malathaat is training up to the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1).
