Free Pick: LA Rams (3-1) at Seattle (2-2) 10/7/21

After a couple of boring Thursday night games, we have a good one featuring two NFC teams with playoff aspirations. Last week at this time the Rams were flying high after knocking off Tampa Bay and the Seahawks were reeling after their 2nd straight loss. Then, the NFL raised its’ ugly head and LA lost at home to Arizona and the Seahawks traveled to San Francisco and defeated the Niners to avoid dropping to 1-3. Tonight, is a big game for both of them. Let’s look at some matchups.

Quarterback: The Seahawks have veteran Russell Wilson who has completed 79 out of 109 passes for 1044 yards and 9 touchdowns. He is also a threat to run and can hurt you with his ability to scramble. Matthew Stafford has thrown for 1222 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Seattle secondary has been leaky and will be tested. Advantage: Rams

Running Backs: Neither team runs the ball very well. The leading rusher for Seattle is Chris Carson who has 232 yards on 54 carries. The Rams have Darrell Henderson and Sony MIchel who have combined for 338 yards. Advantage: Neither

Receivers: Seattle has a dangerous weapon in Tyler Lockett who has 20 catches for 333 yards and 2 TD’s. He is joined by D.K. Metcalf with similar numbers ( 20 catches, 285 yards, 3 touchdowns). Los Angeles has Cooper Kupp, who is off to a tremendous start, with 30 receptions for 431 yards and 5 TD’s. Van Jefferson is also dangerous and has added 13 for 226. Advantage: Neither

Defense: The Seahawks are struggling on both sides of the ball defensively. They are allowing teams to run on them as they are allowing 152 yards per game. Teams are having success through the air and are gaining almost 300 yards per game. They have 9 sacks and will have to get pressure on Stafford. Meanwhile, the Rams have played better against the run than Seattle, but last week the Cardinals ran for 216 yards. Obviously, that has to be fixed. They got a lot of pressure on Tom Brady a couple of weeks ago and will have to do the same with Wilson. Advantage: Rams

This is a big game for both teams. If the Rams win they even their division record to 1-1 and go to 4-1 on the season. If they lose they will start division play at 0-2. Seattle doesn’t want to lose at home in a division as tough as this one. They won a must-win game at San Francisco last week and can turn their season around with a win in this one. They would be back at 3-2 and would have to be feeling good about themselves. The Rams are a 3-point favorite.
