Free Pick: Buffalo (3-1) at Kansas City (2-2) 10/10/21

The Sunday night game features the red-hot Buffalo Bills heading to Arrowhead to take on the Kansas City Chiefs, who are still trying to find their defense. The place will be rocking and the Chiefs have no excuses to not be at their best in this one. Buffalo will be a challenge and can gain the right to claim they are one of the best teams in the AFC. Let’s break down some matchups:

QUARTERBACKS:

Buffalo: Josh Allen 99 completions out of 157 attempts for 1055 yards with 9 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

Kansas City: Patrick Mahomes 102 out of 141 for 1218 yards with 14 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.

Both teams have excellent quarterbacks that can beat you. Most people would think that Mahomes would have more rushing yards than Allen, but that is not true. Allen can move around and run the ball, too. He is looking to play better than he has in the past against KC. Advantage: Chiefs

RUNNING BACKS:

Buffalo: Devin Singletary has 49 carries for 259 yards and 1 touchdown. Zack Moss has 30 for 147 and 3 touchdowns.

Kansas City: Clyde Edwards-Helaire has 58 carries for 291 yards.

The Chiefs were struggling running the ball after the first 2 games, but they have greatly improved their output recently. Buffalo should have some success running the ball against the Kansas City run defense. Advantage: Buffalo

RECEIVERS:

Buffalo: Stefon Diggs has 26 catches for 305 yards and 1 touchdown. Cole Beasley has 25 for 210 yards. Tight end, Dawson Knox has 15 receptions for 144 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Kansas City: Tyreek Hill has 30 catches for 453 yards and 4 touchdowns. Travis Kelce has 24 for 312 and 3 touchdowns. Mecole Hardman is 13 for 123 yards.

Against almost all opponents the Chiefs have a big advantage. Buffalo can counter with a good set of receivers also. They have Diggs and Beasley as their wideouts and Knox is a big weapon inside the red zone. KC is looking for that 3rd receiver to compliment the other two and Hardman is coming along nicely. Advantage: Neither

DEFENSE:

On paper, the Bills have the edge in every category over the Chiefs. However, the competition they have played is nowhere near as good as Kansas City’s offense, so I am ignoring some of the stats. The Chiefs will have success against the Bills. The key to the game will be how much success the Bills have against a Chiefs defense that has been mediocre at best. Advantage: Buffalo

If you go by the matchups, it would appear that Buffalo has a clear advantage in this game. However, the game is in Arrowhead and Kansas City is damn hard to beat in there. It is a much bigger game for the Chiefs than it is for the Bills because the Chiefs don’t want to fall to 2-3 on the season, especially considering the tough division they play in. Kansas City is a 3-point favorite.
