Free Pick: Alamo Bowl at San Antonio 12/29/21

No.14 Oregon 10-3 vs. No.16 Oklahoma 10-2

This is an interesting matchup between two programs who lost their head coach after the season ended. The Ducks will be coached by Joe Moorhead, their offensive coordinator, who has accepted the head coaching position at Akron for 2022. Meanwhile, Oklahoma will be guided by Hall-of-Fame Sooner legend, Bob Stoops, who stepped in after Lincoln Riley left for USC. This should be a good game, but very difficult to figure out because so many players have opted out for both teams. Let’s see what Vegas thinks.

TOTAL TEAM POINTS:

Oregon: 28.5 Total Team Points Oregon Their is some speculation that they will go with a different quarterback since Anthony Brown struggled in the PAC-12 championship game and is leaving after this game. The Ducks were not near as potent offensively as past Oregon teams have been, but they still scored 31 points and averaged 418 yards per game. They are going up against a Sooner defense that defended the run pretty well, but had problems in the secondary. Plus 4 starters out of the front seven, opted out of the game. I like Oregon UNDER 28.5 total team points.

Oklahoma: 33.5 Total Team Points The Sooners have not been their usual offensive juggernaut either. They had issues at quarterback and have gotten inconsistent play from that important position all year long. True Freshman, Caleb Williams has unlimited potential, but is inexperienced and is getting on-the-job training. The Oregon defense is physical and aggressive, but they are missing some key ingredients also. In the last 3 games Oklahoma has scored only 75 points so, I’ll take Oklahoma UNDER 33.5 team points.

OVER/UNDER: 60.5 Combined Team Points I took the under for both teams so this is easy. UNDER 60.5 combined team points.

POINT SPREAD: Oklahoma is a 4.5-point favorite This is another game where we have to try and guess which team will be more motivated to play. Neither team is accustomed to playing in these lesser bowls, especially Oklahoma. They both lost their head coaches and several key players are missing. I’m saying playing under the guidance of Bob Stoops might give the Sooners a slight edge.
