Papa Dudes Best Bet for College Basketball Today

UNLV 16-11 at Nevada 12-13 (-2): The Runnin’ Rebels have very quietly been moving up the ladder in the competitive Mountain West. They are coming off a 72-51 thrashing over a 21-4 Colorado State team. Meanwhile, Nevada has been up and down all season long. I’m sticking with the team playing the best ball in this one. PAPA DUDES BEST BET: UNLV +2

GAMES INVOLVING TOP-25 TEAMS:

Oklahoma 14-13 at #9 Texas Tech 21-6 (-10): This Big 12 game features two teams headed in opposite directions. The Red Raiders have ascended to #9 in this week’s rankings and they deserve it. They are, arguably, the best team in a very tough conference. They welcome a beat-up, hard-working, Oklahoma squad that whipped them in Norman a couple of weeks ago. But the Sooners are about as low as they can go and with all their problems (mainly a lack of talent), I don’t see anyway they win. So, can Texas Tech cover? It is safe to assume, that they will be a little flat after their big win over Texas, on Saturday. Still, I’m sticking with them. PAPA DUDES PICK: Texas Tech -10

Kansas State 14-12 at #5 Kansas 22-4 (-12): Kansas State is a pesky bunch, who frustrates the hell out of whomever the opponent may be. But this is Kansas and they never beat the Jayhawks. So, there is very little to be said to give them much of a chance in this game contest either. The challenge is figuring out the spread. K-State had Kansas beat in Manhattan, earlier when these two teams met, but let a late lead slip away. Will they be able to hang with the Hawks in Lawrence? Maybe, but I’m going Kansas to pull away late and cover. PAPA DUDES PICK: Kansas -12

Michigan State 18-8 at #25 Iowa 18-8 (-6) : The Hawkeyes have made it into the Top-25 for the first time this year. They get the Spartans tonight at home, and if they can win this one, they will almost certainly be a lock for the NCAA tournament. I’m sure the barn will be rocking and they will be ready. Meanwhile, Michigan State is mired in a slump and are very unpredictable. This is a team that I’m staying away from the rest of the way. There is nothing I like about the line at all, and I’m not betting this, but I have to make a pick. PAPA DUDES PICK: Iowa -6

#17 Tennessee 19-7 (-11) at Missouri 10-17: This one boils down to whether Tennessee comes ready to play. Missouri is playing at a very low level and are coming off back-to-back losses to Mississippi State, with the last one being a 2-point loss at home on Sunday. This is their third game in four days and I can’t see them being very motivated. But, will Tennessee be either. This is a dangerous game to bet. PAPA DUDES PICK: MIssouri +11

#8 Villanova 21-6 at #21 UConn 19-7 (-2): Of course you know what I’m going to say. Here is another game between two Big East teams, that is impossible to decide who is going to win. It’s definitely the best game of the night and an argument could be made for either team’s chances. So, go with your gut in these games. PAPA DUDES GUT SAYS: Villanova +2

#18 Arkansas 21-6 (-1) at Florida 17-10: This will be the 2nd best game of the night. Arkansas comes in to Gainesville playing very well, and have a tournament bid locked up. On the other hand, the Gators need a big win and this would be huge for their chances, and more than likely, put them in a very good position. They knocked off Auburn Saturday and I think they are going to pull off another win tonight. PAPA DUDES PICK: Florida +1

#24 Alabama 17-10 (-4) at Vanderbilt 14-12: This will be an interesting SEC battle in Nashville tonight. When Alabama is on, they can be a handful for about anyone. But, they haven’t been able to close games out, which is a bad sign. Vanderbilt is more than capable of winning and this is another tough one to predict. I wouldn’t bet a dime either way. PAPA DUDES PICK: Alabama -4
