Breaking from post 3 under Luis Contreras at 8/1 odds, Souper Escape fought against her initial restraint and chased from second while Naughty Me posted opening fractions of :24.66 and :49.44. Finally allowed to run freely down the backside, Souper Escape drew up alongside the pacesetter midway through the far turn before soon breaking free.

Let loose at the top of the stretch, Souper Escape tore away with no one nearby. The Mike Trombetta trainee crossed 3 1/4 lengths the best in a final time of 1:42.71 for the 1 1/16-mile event over the fast synthetic main track.

“She looks like she loves the synthetic,” Contreras said. “I was watching replays of the last performance. I tried to (cover her up) until the 5/8 (pole), but another horse came beside me and my filly went a little bit aggressive, so I let her pick it up a bit. She was nice and strong the whole way.”

Bold Script put forth a determined drive in the stretch to take second by a 1/2-length over La Feve, herself a 1/2-length ahead of the closing 9/5 favorite Wings of Dawn. Completing the order of finish came Power GalWinandyourin Gin, and a spent Naughty Me.

Souper Escape’s win was her second in her last three starts, having achieved her first stakes success in the off-turf Christina Stakes at Delaware Park on June 19. The 3-year-old daughter of Medaglia d’Oro now sports a record of 9-4-0-1 with $132,990 earned.

Souper Escape returned $19 to win, $8.40 to place, and $5.10 to show. Bold Script brought back $4.20 to place and $2.70 to show, while La Feve paid $4.20 to show.
