Trained by Bob Baffert, Kinza improved to 2-for-2 on Feb. 10 when stretched to a mile in the GIII Las Virgenes and earning a front-running victory by two lengths. Prior to the Las Virgenes, Kinza won her debut by 7 ½ lengths when going six furlongs here Dec. 29.

Kinza is by Carpe Diem out of the Quality Road mare Secret Wonder. She was purchased for $350,000 at auction last year by owner Michael Lund Peterson. Jockey Juan Hernandez, who has been aboard for both of Kinza’s prior starts, again has the call on Saturday.

Left in Kinza’s wake in the Las Virgenes was She’s a Tempest, who takes another crack here for trainer Steve Knapp. In the Las Virgenes, She’s a Tempest stalked Kinza in third throughout and maintained that position at the wire when beaten 3 ½ lengths.

She’s a Tempest is by Connect out of the Tiznow mare Hurricane Tiz. She is owned by Beerman Family Trust and Sayjay Racing LLC. Prior to the Las Virgenes, She’s a Tempest earned her diploma when going a mile against straight maidens here Jan. 5.

She’s a Tempest will have regular rider Tiago Pereira in the irons.

Making their stakes debuts off recent maiden wins are Nay V Belle for trainer Mark Glatt and Ultimate Authority for trainer Tim Yakteen.

Nay V Belle debuted going 6 ½ furlongs here Feb 18 and promptly scored by two lengths when coming from off the pace under Frankie Dettori, who will again be aboard Saturday. The Midshipman filly earned a solid 81 Beyer Speed Figure for her unveiling.

Owned by Saints or Sinners, Nay V Belle was purchased for $200,000 at last year’s OBS April Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training.

Ultimate Authority graduated going a mile here Feb. 2 when making her third career start. By Practical Joke, Ultimate Authority was a $100,000 auction purchase last year by owners by Leslie A. Amestoy, Pierre J. Amestoy and Roger K. Beasley.

Flavien Prat, who was aboard for Ultimate Authority’s maiden win, retains the mount here.
