Restrainedvengence Outduels Kiwi’s Dream in All American

Breaking from post 2 under Kent Desormeaux as the 6/5 slight favorite, Restrainedvengence raced just outside of the 3/2 second choice Kiwi’s Dream, who posted opening fractions of :23.90, :47.94, and 1:11.60. Moving slowly but steadily up alongside the pacesetter in the far turn, Restrainedvengence met Kiwi’s Dream in mid-stretch and the two battled noses apart the entire drive.

Though neither rival gave an inch without a fight, Restrainedvengence got his head clear at the wire for victory. The Val Brinkerhoff trainee completed the mile-long synthetic main track route in a final time of 1:36.43.

Camino Del Paraiso was 3 lengths back in third, outkicking Builder by a 1/2-length. Premium Forest was another 3/4 of a length back in fifth. Bold Endeavor and Engram completed the order of finish.

Restrainedvengence’s win was his third in his last four starts, winning the Zia Park Championship Handicap and the Curribot Handicap at Sunland Park two races later. The 5-year-old Hold Me Back gelding’s record now stands at 22-7-2-1 with $469,222 earned.

Restrainedvengence returned $4.60 to win, $2.40 to place, and $2.10 to show. Kiwi’s Dream brought back $2.60 to place and $2.10 to show, while Camino Del Paraiso paid $2.40 to show.
