Analysis: Much like we suggested, it looks now more than ever that chasing the pace in the Withers hurt this horses chances greatly. In the Gotham he sat well behind the leaders and pounced late to crush his rivals. That kind of versatility is a huge weapon to have in a race like the Kentucky Derby, as well as any race for that matter. Clearly they learned that this one doesn’t need to be on the lead to have success.
