Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: Woodbine Shines on Quiet Weekend

The final weekend before the Breeders’ Cup is often a quiet one, but Woodbine gave us a glimpse at some potential future big names for 2021. See who made our latest Three Stars of the Week:

( Content Continues Below Ad )

1. Dreaming of Drew

Sometimes all it takes for a horse to run a monster effort is making an equipment change, as evidenced by Dreaming of Drew’s dominating gate-to-wire score in Saturday’s Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Woodbine. She looks like a leading early contender for the 2021 Woodbine Oaks and beyond.

2. Stephen

After failing to get past Tio Magico in time during their maiden special weight matchup last time out, Stephen showed that more distance would make the difference as he defeated that rival (and six others) in Sunday’s Coronation Futurity at Woodbine. Despite being a maiden, he was made the 2/1 second choice and will head into the winter as an early favorite for the 2021 Queen’s Plate.

3. Ingrassia & Fluffy Socks

Since these two Chad Brown fillies were barely a nose apart at the wire in Sunday’s Chelsey Flower Stakes at Belmont Park, they deserve to share third-place honors. Ingrassia nipped her stablemate and enjoyed the better trip after Fluffy Socks went a bit erratic on the lead at the top of the stretch. Both were ridden by brothers Jose Ortiz and Irad Ortiz Jr., and neither gave an inch. This was perhaps the most thrilling finish we saw all weekend, and to nobody’s surprise, it looks like Brown has some really talented turf fillies in his care.
