Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: 2-Year-Old Star on the Rise

It was Super Saturday Part 1 last weekend, as Santa Anita and Belmont Park hosted a total of SEVEN Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” races. Let’s see how it all unfolded and who made our Three Stars of the Week:

1. Bolt d’Oro

Say hello to the STRONG favorite to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile! Bolt d’Oro set the track on fire Saturday in the Grade 1 FrontRunner, winning by nearly 8 lengths while earning super-fast speed figures across the board. At this point, he may be the heaviest favorite of the entire Breeders’ Cup. He also has two wins over the Del Mar surface, adding to his positives going into the big event. There’s no doubt that he’s currently the best 2-year-old in training, and you can bet that his connections are already thinking about the Kentucky Derby next May.

2. Beach Patrol

After being a tough-luck loser on several occasions earlier in the year, Beach Patrol is now a force going long on the turf. Two races back, he won the Grade 1 Arlington Million, and on Saturday, he added another Grade 1 win to his resume whe he stormed home in the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic. This was the type of performance that indicates that he’s trending in the right direction, which makes a victory in the Breeders’ Cup Turf a distinct possibility. Never doubt Chad Brown on the turf!

3. Mubtaahij

All it took was a new trainer – and a suspect Grade 1 Awesome Again field – for Mubtaahij to finally break through and get a win. In the past, he was always competitive in these types of events but never able to actually break through and win. That changed last Saturday, and he now has a paid trip to the Breeders’ Cup Classic. He’s not likely going to win the race, but he should at least run competitively. Bob Baffert now has FOUR horses pointed towards the big race.
