Private Mission, the even-money favorite under Flavien Prat when breaking from post 7, tracked Lady Mystify through a tepid early and middle pace before taking command while cornering and powering home to win the fast dirt mile route by 6 1/2 lengths in 1:37.89.

“She broke really well from the gate and put me right into the race,” Prat said. “She got a little aggressive down the backstretch, so I gave her a little bit of a breather until the turn for home. When I asked her, she really dug in and got it done. She won pretty easily.”

California-bred stakes winner I’m So Anna was second, 7 3/4 lengths clear of 8/5 second choice Forest Caraway.

Lisette, Lady Mystify, Day Plan, and Jeanne B completed the order of finish in the field of 3-year-old fillies.

Private Mission’s win came in her two-turn debut and improved her overall record to 4-3-0-0. The Into Mischief filly, purchased for $750,000 as a yearling, has now bankrolled $136,800.

“We didn’t know what she was going to do, but we always thought she could run long,” winning trainer Bob Baffert said. “This was a good spot and she passed the route test. That’s very important. That’s where all the money is.”

Private Mission returned $4 to win, $3.20 to place, and $2.20 to show. I’m So Anna brought back $6 to place and $2.80 to show. Forest Caraway paid $2.10 to show.
