Postulation Demands Respect in G3 American St. Leger

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL – Runnymede Racing’s Postulation showed strong ability while winning Saturday’s Grade 3 American St. Leger.

Tracking the leaders Crewman and Applicator through early fractions of :25.19, :49.58, 1:13.82, and 1:40.96, Postulation and jockey Jorge Vargas, Jr., took control in the stretch and drew off to win the 1 11/16-mile turf race in 2:49.45.

“I wanted to relax him,” said Vargas, Jr. “That was the plan since it was such a long race, but he wanted to be on the pace. When I asked him, he just took off.”

The Eddie Graham trainee’s victory was his second straight (and career) stateside after coming to America in mid-2015. He previously took the 1 1/2-mile Cape Henlopen at Delaware Park on July 8.

“When you watch his race at Delaware Park, (the jockey) said he couldn’t even pull him up, that the outrider had to pull him up,” Graham said. “I didn’t think there was a question and I thought he would get it done.”
