Pink Lloyd Surges to Win the $100,000 Jacques Cartier

TORONTO, ON – The 1-2 favorite, Pink Lloyd, was victorious in Saturday’s $100,000 Jacques Cartier Stakes at Woodbine. This was Pink Lloyd’s first start of 2018 and his 12 first place finish in his 14th start.

Conquest Enforcer was the early leader however, Pink Lloyd was always a comfortable distance behind. The early fractions of :21.96 and :44.58 were quick, but Pink Lloyd had plenty of gas left in the tank. Into the stretch, Pink Lloyd was let loose by jockey Rafael Hernandez, and after that, it was pretty much just a race for second place. Extravagant Kid made a strong push to gain on the leader Pink Lloyd that was enough to get past Conquest Enforcer, but Extravagant Kid was forced to settle for second with Conquest Enforcer finishing third.

“I’ve ridden against him and every time he’s beat me. He beat me eight times. I finally get on him and I won the race,” said Hernandez.

“I was certainly worried. I worry every time, but at the end of the day that’s nine stakes wins in a row. It’s really amazing,” said trainer Robert Tiller. “This horse, he’s magic. He’s a beautiful animal and I don’t think that’s his best race you saw here today.

Pink Lloyd returned $ 3.10 to win, $2.10 to place. Extravagant Kid brought back $6.00 to place.
